Peace which passes all understanding.
My name is Florence Holden and my husband and I are members of FOYLE Branch. My daughter who is a helper told us about the D.C.F. and invited us along. We have now been members for about a year.
I have been married to Joseph for forty-six years and have a grown up family (five boys and two girls).
I enjoy D.C.F. very much.
The singing of choruses and well-known hymns, the Bible quiz, the birthday spot and a very simple but challenging message, and the lovely cup of tea at the end of each meeting, all add to a very enjoyable Saturday aftemoon spent among friends.I am a member of Kilfennan Presbyterian Church and am involved in P.W.A., the weekly prayer meeting and Bible study.
In my spare time I like to do crosswords and puzzles as well as reading and doing jigsaws.
I also like to walk with my husband and our dog.It was on 15th October, 1952 that I gave my life to the Lord Jesus.
I was just a teenager and hadn't tried any of the world's temptations, but still felt I wasn't good enough to be a Christian.
I had attended the Presbyterian City Mission for Sunday School and later Bible Class and I knew I was a sinner. It was at a Sunday night meeting I was approached about my soul's need for salvation.
The Missionary who took the services there was Mr David Knight and he taught the gospel faithfully and sincerely.
There was a group of us together on that Sunday when Mr Knight spoke to us.
I can't really remember what he said, I just know I came away wishing I'd given my heart to the Lord.
A couple of friends and I talked about what we were going to do and I personally felt a real urgency to get to the meeting that Tuesday night I told Mr Knight I knew I was a sinner and needed salvation but I was afraid I couldn't keep it.He then told me I would have to keep nothing, the Lord would keep me.
As soon as he uttered those words, it was as if someone tumed on a light and I saw clearly, that I was relying on my own strength and not on God's strength.
So two of my friends and I knelt and prayed the very simple prayer:
Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, Come in today, Come in to stay, Come into my heart, Lord Jesus.I have many favourite Bible verses, which are very important to me, but the one I rely on most is the one my minister, the late Rt. Rev. George EH. Wynne wrote on the inside cover of the Bible which he presented to us on the day we were married (14th June, 1958), Proverbs 3:6 "In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths".
I trust you too will accept Christ as your Saviour and know the peace which passes all understanding.
Florence Holden.
